7 reasons studying online can be better than
face-to-face English classes

These times are challenging for everyone. The world hasn’t been through anything like the coronavirus pandemic in living memory and as we say in English, this is unchartered territory. But, never fear! Despite everything, there’s no reason to stop learning English.

Studying can be a great form of escape from what’s going on in the world, and can keep you connected with other students in your situation. Have you discovered the world of online English learning yet? You may have found yourself asking “Is online learning as good as face-to-face learning?” which is a common question, but online learning carries loads of benefits. Have a look at some reasons below why studying online is more effective than face-to-face classes.

    1. Studying online is cheaper

It would be an amazing thing if all educational courses worldwide were free, but economically, it would be a disaster! While online classes could never be free, they are cheaper than face-to-face classes. In addition, you’re saving money on travel costs and take-out lunches, so it’s a win-win situation financially. If you learn English online, you’ll definitely find yourself saving money. Perhaps you could treat yourself to a new IELTS book with the cash you save?

    2. You can study at home, in your pyjamas!

We all feel we need to make an effort with our appearance when we leave the house for any reason, but particularly for studying in college. But when you’re at home, you can chill out in your comfies all day. You don’t have to put your shoes or socks on, and you can leave your coat hanging up by the door. To learn English online, all you need is an internet connection and your good fine self. Don’t forget that lots of theories state that students learn best when they are comfortable – what’s not to love?

    3. Flexibility

If you’re weighing up the benefits of online learning vs face-to-face learning, then perhaps one of the biggest things to consider is flexibility. As a result of the reduction in travel time, the rest of your day is free for you to do the things that you enjoy. Studying online also means that if needed, you can attend classes from a place other than your hometown, as long as you take your laptop along!

    4. There’s no commute

One of the biggest benefits of online English learning is that you don’t have to travel to school. So no buses, trains or lengthy walks. And an added bonus of no commute is a massive saving in time, so you can sleep for a little bit longer, or dedicate a bit more time to studying outside of class and homework. All of your English-learning dreams can be achieved from the safety and comfort of your own home.

    5. Snacks and cups of tea on cue

Fancy a hot drink? Pop to your kitchen and grab one. How about a snack? No more leaving the premises, hopping over the road, queuing up and handing over vast quantities of money. Your kitchen lies just a few feet away from your study space, so it’s a lot more convenient to grab something to keep you doing.

    6. Everything you need is in one place

When you’re packing your backpack for college, how long do you spend checking you have everything with you? Bus ticket, notebook, ID, diary, pens, wallet, books…one of the benefits of online English learning is being at home, which means having everything right where you need it. No more worrying about dropping your keys on the bus or leaving your wallet at home by mistake.

    7. You can do it from anywhere in the world

If you live say in Saudi Arabia, or South America, and you’ve always wanted to learn English from a native speaker in the UK, then skip the travel costs and the stress of being away from home, and learn English online instead. Or perhaps you need to go back to your home country, and don’t want to miss your classes. It’s no secret that the internet brings people together from all over the world, so why not make the most of it and learn something too?

So try not to be too disheartened by the current global situation. And remember, however down you’re feeling, it WILL come to an end eventually. Keep up the hard work and start studying English online.
