Manchester is a hive of learning and development – boasting the largest student population in Europe. Known as the UK’s Second City, it’s a popular location to enjoy international sporting events. The city is a UNESCO City of Literature, known for having a rich and radical literary history. It was the meeting place of Friedrich Engels and Karl Marx – and many notable writers drew their inspiration from Manchester.
English novelist Elizabeth Gaskell, penned most of her novels from her residence on Plymouth Grove. Her house hosted numerous influential authors, including Charles Dickens and Charlotte Brontë. The current Poet Laureate, Dame Carol Ann Duffy, has lived in the city since 1966.
There’s an abundance of sights to see – like the Museum of Science and Industry, or the impressive National Football Museum. Chetham’s Library, founded in 1653, is the oldest public library in the English-speaking world.
The city is home to the BBC, along with various other television and film studios. You’ll be learning English in the middle of a massive hub for media production. The NCG’s summer school is located at the University of Salford, and welcomes students from all corners of the globe.
Our summer school will combine learning English with our Media & Production programme. As well as your English lessons from monday to friday – you will have exciting excursions and themed activities that will focus on modern communications and technology.
Including – full day visits to Liverpool and Chester, trips to the BBC studios and exciting stadium tours of two of the biggest football clubs on the planet – like The Etihad, the home of Manchester City.
You’ll also have chill out evenings, to kick back and relax – go shopping at the Trafford Centre, or to enjoy the city’s vibrant nightlife that’s perfect for students, with plenty of student-friendly, cheap and cheerful choices available.
Other activities include – visits to London, Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Chester Zoo – optional trips are available for all of these and more.
You’ll enjoy an enriching English and media learning experience from 1st July to 12th Aug 2018 – whilst staying in high quality accommodation with a full board meal plan. All ages from 12 to 17 will be welcomed at the Manchester summer school.
