Students from outside the EEA can benefit from a 25-week academic year programme. The programme consists of morning or afternoon General English classes of 15 or 20 hours per week.

It allows the students to stay in Ireland for 8 months with the right to work 20 hours per week while studying and full-time during the months of June, July, August and September and from 15 December to 15 January.

Please click for all requirements here.

    Length of stay

Students can extend their stay in Ireland up to two times so they can remain in the country for 2 years in total. (i.e. 3 x 8 months).

Please note that depending on your country of origin you might be required to apply for a visa before coming to Ireland. In case you need a visa, please allow ample time for your visa application to be considered.

All non-EEA students applying for the academic year programme are required to:

    • Have a private medical insurance to cover their entire stay in Ireland. (NCG can provide it).
    • Make arrangements for accommodation ahead of their arrival in Ireland. (NCG can help with this).
    • Have sufficient funds available to stay in Ireland.
    • Register through the school for an end-of-course exam.
    • Register with GNIB shortly after arriving in Ireland.

For all requirements if you require a visa, please click here.

As per the Department of Justice regulations, the minimum level of attendance on the course is 85%.

    Mandatory end of course exam

Academic year Non-EEA students are required to take an official exam at the end of their 25-week programme. Our students can choose to take the following exams when they finish their course:

    • Test of Interactive English (TIE )
    • IELTS

Students are entitled to take 2 months of holidays during or after their course.
