Things For NCG Students to Do in Manchester This Christmas

The festive season is in full swing in Manchester, and the bustling student city has plenty on offer for those looking to make the most of the Christmas celebrations.

So, for those looking to study English in Manchester by enrolling at our English Language School, we wanted to go through some of the things our NCG students can do to really get into the Christmas spirit and enjoy student life over the winter months.

    Festive theatre shows and concerts

There will be an abundance of auditoriums and concert halls all across Greater Manchester, offering a rich variety of Christmas themed shows and concerts, which are suitable for any student. If you’re interested in catching a show though, make sure to plan ahead as tickets can sell out pretty quickly.

This year venues are set to be stuffed with a magnificent mix of classic pantomimes, exciting new stories and old favourites. From the traditional Christmas panto, Cinderella at the Oldham Coliseum, to the Christmas musical adaptation of The Producers at the Royal Exchange Theatre in the city centre – you won’t be short of entertaining options.

    Some crucial Christmas shopping

Of course Christmas usually involves quite a bit of shopping, and luckily for those who choose to study English with NCG over the festive season, there’s plenty of shopping to be had. Manchester is crammed with quirky shops and bizarre boutiques, especially in the Northern Quarter, where anyone can find some alternative Christmas gifts.

There’s a diverse range of shops and outlets waiting to be discovered throughout Manchester. You’re sure to find what you’re looking for amongst all the clothing, design and music stores nestled in the labyrinth of side streets and back alleys. And if you can brave the crowds, you can venture over to the Arndale or Trafford Centre to really soak up the Christmas shopping experience.

    Enjoy festive food and drink

Christmas in Manchester also brings with it lots of fantastic festive food and drink so that you can eat, drink, and be merry. Plenty of cafes and restaurants across the city will be offering traditional Christmas dinners, and there will be many opportunities to sample some mourish mince pies and mulled wine.

Without a doubt the best way to experience the food of Christmas in the city, is to head on down to the famous Manchester Christmas Markets. The markets have hundreds of stalls in various locations throughout the city, with Albert Square acting as the main hub. You’ll be able to grab yourself some pulled pork, or chow down on some traditional bratwurst, while sipping on a mug of mulled cider. Of course there will be plenty of festive vegetarian options too.

These captivating Christmas activities are just some of the reasons to choose Manchester as the place to study English, and there’s a lot more where they came from. Choosing to enrol on an English speaking course with us over the winter months, will allow you to take in all the wonderful sights and sounds of the festive period in Manchester.
