Meet Pedro Almeida, a great educator at New College Group, where he plays a crucial role in steering students towards English language proficiency. With a great dedication to teaching and a vast expanse of experience, Pedro is eager to share his insights and knowledge of the English language education.
How long have you been teaching English?
Since September 2005
What inspired you to become an English teacher?
At the time, I was living in Portugal and I thought that, as I could speak Portuguese and have been through the process of learning a language, I was in a good position to help people learn a second language.
What do you enjoy most about being an English teacher?
I love the different people I’ve met from so many different backgrounds, I don’t think there are many jobs like this one where I get to learn so much about people. I also love how no two lessons are ever the same, even if I use the same materials or activities.
How can you support students with IELTS preparation?
I support students by helping them with their exam techniques, giving them constructive criticism of their work and helping them with more complex grammar and vocabulary.
What levels of English proficiency do you teach? (e.g., beginner, intermediate, advanced)
I teach all levels from beginner to advanced and as varied as exam classes to business english classes.
I love football and support Tottenham and Benfica.
I love whisky and I am a member of the Manchester Whisky Club. We meet once a month to drink and talk whisky.
I love food and my favourite cuisines are Mexican, Japanese and Portuguese.
I love travelling and my favourite city to visit was Ljubljana.
My favourite TV show is Seinfeld and my favourite movie is Back to the Future.
My favourite music is rock and I love AC/DC and Guns N’ Roses.
